Yesterday was spent at sea and we pretty much just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. We woke up late, had some breakfast, sat out by the pool and had a mediocre cheeseburger for lunch, and just took it easy. We decided to go to the art auction in the afternoon for two reasons: 1. We thought it might be interesting, and 2. I had entered a “guess the weight of the bronze sculpture” contest and the winner was being announced at the art auction. Well, it wasn’t particularly interesting and I didn’t win the contest. The auction itself was really ridiculous. There are lots of regular folk on this cruise – it’s not like we were at Sotheby’s or anything. But the majority of the items for auction were over $5K, and some were $40K! We were cracking up because no one was bidding. They ended up selling a few pieces at $300 or so, and a couple at $600, but that was it.
After that we played some Bingo. We were both close a couple time, but those old cruising folks are pros and we didn’t stand a chance.
The Captain’s champagne toast was in the evening, and I guess it’s a pretty big event. We happened to have some great seats and the champagne glass tower they built was really cool. We hung there for awhile and went to bed relatively early.
Today is Estonia. We are here now and it’s a very awesome, OLD, place. I’ll post about it later.
I tried to post some pics from last night’s festivities but they wouldn’t upload. I’ll try again later.
OK, we are in Russia now and I have a good connection. Here are the pics. You can see how many people gathered for the champagne event. The last pic is the sunset from our room at about 11:00 pm.
