Oslo

Our first stop was Oslo, and we just weren’t all that impressed, especially when comparing it to Copenhagen. First, we arrived on Sunday and everything was closed! There were literally no open shops. The restaurants all opened up later, but when we arrived at 10 am it looked like a ghost town. Our cruise ship folks were the only people in the town for a while. It was odd. You can see that in some of these pics -Mary is standing in the middle of what is a whole bunch of shops.

We decided to go up to see the famous ski jump and maybe zip line down the slope. That turned out pretty disastrous when we missed our train exit and had to walk a couple miles back to the slope. The line was then too long and we decided to head back to town. We again missed our train exit and ended up walking through the Oslo ghetto on our way back to the ship. That was quite the experience, but we made it through. By this time there were lots of people out on the streets and things had picked up. The first pic is the hotel at the ski resort. The fourth pic is the Nobel Peace Center.

Overall we felt like Oslo just didn’t have nearly as much character as Copenhagen did. We grant that we didn’t get a true sense of it because it was Sunday, but it just didn’t have nearly the vibe of Copenhagen. We have a day at sea today, then it’s on to Berlin, Germany.
