Yesterday was spent wandering the town and exploring. We walked another 11 miles yesterday, and discovered some really interesting places.
We started at an old church in Christianshavn. We climbed 400 steps to the top of the steeple. The first pic is looking up at the church. You can see the spiral staircase going to the top. The second one is the view from the top which was absolutely incredible.

We then headed over to Freetown Christiana. We actually found it by accident wandering around. It is a community of people that have basically seceded from Denmark and started their own society. The government allows them to function because they don’t want the hassle of ending it. It feels like what the 60’s in some hippie towns in the US must have been. It was a really amazing thing to see. Lots of marijuana being sold and smoked, lots of graffiti, lots of tie dye, bartering, homemade trinkets, a few bars, just an all-around super unique place and like nothing we’ve ever seen. We aren’t posting any pics of this place – if you want to see it, you’re going to have to get here and check it out.
Next we headed to Tivoli Gardens, the amusement park in the middle of town. It’s been here for 175 years and is the cleanest and prettiest amusement park we’ve ever seen. We have no idea what the white building below is, but it was part of the park.

Next we headed to the zoo. The highlight was the chimps where we saw a baby chimp playing with his brother. It was so cute, and Mary was ready to adopt the little dude. We saw rhinos, elephants, giraffes, and the other standard zoo animals.

The rest of the night was spent in our usual way, wandering around the city finding little places to eat and drink. There’s a pizza place open late where we’ve had late night pizza the last two nights. It’s the definition of “hole in the wall,” but the pizza is fantastic. Here are some random pics about town.

We are getting ready to head to the cruise ship and set sail. We pull out of port at 6 PM tonight and arrive in Oslo, Norway tomorrow. Bon Voyage!
