First Impressions

Last night was spent wandering around the city a bit and discovering that right around the corner from our hotel was the scene that is seen in pretty much every picture of Copenhagen – the colorful shops and restaurants along the canal. The stretch of restaurants is really amazing with one right after the other for blocks, all with outside seating right by the canal. We picked one, had a great dinner, walked around and did a little bar hopping, found a 24 hour McDonalds (they don’t have a normal double cheeseburger, but the Big Mac and fries were close), and got to bed at about 2 AM.

Mary described the city perfectly, saying it has an “edge.” It’s hard to describe, and it’s not a bad thing, it’s just different from anywhere we’ve ever been. Lots of bars and bicycles. Bikes everywhere. Like, everywhere. It’s crazy.

Here are a few pics. We thought the Phoenix Hotel was pretty cool. We are doing more wandering today, and having a blast.
